Composer and pianist, Laurier has composed over a hundred works for theatre and dance. His music has been heard in several cities across Quebec and Canada, as well as on stages throughout Europe — including the Venice Biennale, the Opera d’Avignon, the Opera de Rennes and the Opera de Massy — as well as in the United States and Asia.
After early musical studies during which he became a laureate of the Canadian Music Competition, Laurier earned a master’s degree in piano from the University of Montreal at the age of 21, supported by a scholarship from the Fonds de recherche du Quebec. He then collaborated with several prominent Canadian theatre directors, including Robert Lepage, Serge Denoncourt, Claude Poissant, Denis Marleau, Eda Holmes and Eric Jean, as well as with choreographers Christophe Garcia and Virginie Brunelle. He also went on to work as a radio producer at CBC/Radio-Canada, where he received a Silver Medal and Special Mention at the New York Festivals Radio Awards, as well as the Judith-Jasmin Arts and Culture Award from the Professional Federation of Quebec Journalists
